Glow Plug Controller
Product Application: The glow plug controller is a critical component of the military HMMWV's (aka "Hummvee's") ignition system. It must be capable of handling a high current power control (125-150 amps) and function within a wide temperature range under extreme conditions.
The KDS Solution: KDS has developed a product that meets the external environmental demands of a military application. KDS also has successfully resolved the issue of excessive glow plug consumption via a microprocessor that implements a custom algorithm and PWM current regulation. In 2006 the design evolved to include on-board diagnostic capabilities via J1939 protocol.
The KDS glow plug controller is designed for under-hood mounting in a combat vehicle, sealed to endure three-foot water immersion, and hardened to withstand hostile environments that include extreme heat, cold, impact, sand, ice and water.
